¹Ancient Greece did not define sexualities, so these definitions would not make any sense to Dionysus. Instead they described the roles men took in a sexual relationship with each other, either erastes (the penetrator) or eromenos (the penetratee). Dionysus flouts usual expectations for a strong god by usually assuming the role of eromenos.

²Sparagmos is ritual dismemberment, usually with the bare hands, in an ecstatic frenzy Dionysus inspires in his followers. Omophagia is the act of eating the raw flesh.
